What we do

Val's Helping Hands is an organization that serves low-income members of the Houston metro area that require durable medical equipment/adaptive equipment (DME/AE) to safely perform daily activities by conducting a home safety assessment for the client and then providing them with the proper DME/AE. Val's Helping Hands allows volunteer therapists to conduct home safety assessments, assemble the equipment, and place it in the proper place in the home. When clients require additional services to provide maximum safety within the home that is not provided by the organization, Val's Helping Hands provides resources to the clients so that the repairs can be made. While Val's Helping Hands primarily focuses on providing DME/AE to low-income members of the Houston metro area, the organization's new initiative, Helping Older Adults will work to provide DME/AE to low-income members of the Houston metro area specifically within skilled nursing facilities.

History

"Val’s Helping Hands was inspired by the care and love my mother showed for others. Instead of resting before her night shift at work, she prepared a meal to bring to her coworkers. She was always thinking about the wellbeing of others. I, as her daughter, have inherited this characteristic and named and created this non-profit in honor of my mom" -Christina Popoola, OTD, Founder of Val's Helping Hands
